External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar on Sunday discussed the prevailing tensions between the US and Iran and its global implications with his counter parts from US, Iran, Oman and UAE.
On a call with the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the EAM highlighted India’s stakes and concerns related to its security and energy access.

He also spoke to Javad Zarif, the foreign minister of Iran and expressed India’s sincere concerns with respect to the escalating situation.

He called on both US and Iran to de escalate the prevailing tense situation and resolve issues amicably.

He also spoke to other regional partners, Oman and UAE.

Tensions between Iran and the US have reached disproportionate levels ever since, an Iran backed militia group Katb Hizbollah targeted an US military base in Kirkuk, Iraq. Both sides targeted each other. On Thursday, a US drone strike killed Major General Qassim Soleimani. US has rushed in additional troops to the regional following this development.
Iran has targeted more number of American military bases since Thursday.
