Skygazers are in for a treat on Sunday. You can view the rare “ring of fire” solar eclipse. An annular eclipse occurs when the moon covers the sun’s center, leaving the sun’s visible outer edge to form a “ring of fire” or “annulus” around the moon.
The good news is that many people across North Indian states such as Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand will get to witness the full annular solar eclipse. Rest of the country will only get to see a partial solar eclipse.
Eclipse will start at 9:15 am in the morning and will end at 3:00 pm. That means this solar eclipse will be for 5 hours 48 minutes and 3 seconds, meanwhile in India it will be visible for 3 hours and around 26 minutes. However the start and end time of this solar eclipse will vary in different parts of the country.

Yamuna Nagar – Haryana
Dehradun – Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Kurukshetra, Sirsa are some of the major North Indian cities from which the full solar eclipse would be visible. While other major cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Bangalore, Chennai will get to observe a partial solar eclipse.

The eclipse around the world
The full eclipse will be visible to people in parts of China, Central African Republic, Congo, Ethiopia, India, and Pakistan. While the event will begin in Central Africa, parts of China will be the last areas to see it. In Central Africa it will be first visible at 4:47 AM local time and in China, will end at 8:32 AM
Precautions when viewing solar eclipse
- Do not use normal goggles or glasses to see the solar eclipse. The harmful rays of the sun can damage the eyes with such glasses.
- Use solar-viewing glasses, personal solar filters or eclipse glasses to see solar eclipses. Such glasses are called glasses with solar filters.
- Seeing a solar eclipse from a pinhole, telescope and telescope can also prove to be harmful.
- During the solar eclipse, if you are outside under the open sky for any work, then definitely put black glasses.
Next year’s annual solar eclipse will take place on June 10 and be visible in Canada, northern Europe, Russia and the Atlantic.
