Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has on Friday announced that all schools and educational establishments, shopping malls, cinema halls, pubs are to be shut for a week starting from Saturday. The state government also clarified that marriage functions and all large gatherings are also not to be permitted in the same period.
This decision has been taken after a meeting of Group of Ministers headed by the Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa conducted a meeting with the officials of the state on the state of preparedness.
The state has reported the first death related to Coronavirus (COVID-19) when on Thursday, when a 76-year-old man from Kalburgi district who returned from Saudi Arabia passed away after testing positive for the case.

The state government has also cancelled the leave of all officials of the state government as the number of cases has been on the rise in the state and in India.
Companies based out of Bengaluru are giving the option of work from home for their employees. On Thursday, an employee working in the RMZ office of Google tested positive.
The Chief Minister also asked the people not to panic and asked them to avoid all non-essential travel.
It is not just Karnataka that is initiating measures to tackle the spread of this virus. On Thursday, Delhi shut down all educational institutes and cinema halls till March 31.
Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have done the same.
