In the midst of this worldwide scare, people have tried to make a killing in the market by recycling used masks and manufacturing fake sanitizers.
Haryana Food and Drug Administration on Thursday, busted a fake hand sanitiser manufacturing company and seized at least 5,000 hand sanitisers, drug controller officer Ripan Mehta said.

The incident comes at a time when there is shortage of sanitisers in the market due to growing coronavirus fears. Big e-commerce companies too are grappling with the shortage and price gouging as more number of people are looking for ways to keep themselves safe from what’s declared a “pandemic”.
Speaking to reporters Mehta said, “We have busted a hand sanitiser manufacturing company and seized at least 5,000 hand sanitisers.”
He said that the company was manufacturing industrial oils and had just started manufacturing hand sanitisers.
Similarly, in Srinagar, drug inspectors raided and seized more than 50 litres of fake sanitizers being prepared with thinner, glycerine, water and lemon flavour
A factory allegedly making fake hand sanitisers was raided by the Food and Drug Administration on Friday in the Vakola area of Mumbai.
“Due to the coronavirus outbreak, people are scared and are purchasing sanitisers in panic. Some anti-social elements are engaged in making fake products,” said DR Gahane, Joint Commissioner of FDA Maharashtra.
The Joint Commissioner said immediate action was taken against the factory.
“As soon as it was reported, the FDA raided the factory in Vakola and recovered the fake products,” he added.
The number of people infected with coronavirus climbed up to 75 in India.
World Health Organisation (WHO) on Wednesday declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
