Extending losses for the third straight day, the benchmark Sensex ended 271.92 points, or 0.76%, down at 35,470.15, on Monday and the Nifty 50 ended 90.50 points, or 0.84%, lower at 10,663.50.
The Indian bourses took cues from the global markets as political uncertainties shadowed the US over the partial US government shutdown.

Barring the IT index, all sectoral indices ended in the red, with auto, banks, consumption, energy and metals have closed lower. The Nifty Midcap index ended 0.7 percent lower.
The Indian rupee was trading higher (intraday) by 20 paise at 69.95 per dollar against Friday’s close 70.15.
The markets will be shut on Tuesday on account of Christmas.
