Yasir Shah becomes fastest bowler to reach 200 Test wickets

Date:

Pakistan leg spinner Yasir Shah smashed a record that stood for 82 years by taking 200 wickets in just 33 test matches. He became the fastest bowler to take 200 test wickets on the fourth day of the third and final Test at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Shah broke pre World War record set by Australian Clarrie Grimmett in 1936. Shah had admitted that the record was on his mind, ahead of this series-deciding Test, but didn’t know too much about the previous holder of it.

Yasir, whose 14 wickets helped Pakistan level the series 1-1 in Dubai, now has 27 wickets in the three Tests against New Zealand.

Yasir was also the fastest Pakistani to 50 wickets (nine Tests), reached 100 wickets in 17 Tests — second only to Englishman George Lohmann who took 16 matches during a Test in Johannesburg in 1896.
