Nawaz Sharif Claims Victory In Pakistan’s National Elections

Date:

New Delhi: Pakistan’s ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif declared victory in the national elections on Friday, asserting that his political party has secured the majority of votes and is in talks regarding the establishment of a coalition government.

Sharif refrained from revealing the exact number of seats his party secured, as the counting process continued for the remaining seats out of the 265 that were contested.

The recent figures released by the election commission indicate that Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured 61 seats, significantly falling short of the required 133 seats to assert the right to establish a government.

Recognizing that his party lacks the necessary seats independently, Sharif stated that his deputies would convene with leaders from various parties later in the day. This includes a meeting with former president Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party, to explore the prospect of creating a coalition government.
