Ahmedabad: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson kick-started his two-day India visit on Thursday as he arrived in Ahmedabad.
In Ahmedabad, the UK Prime Minister will meet leading businesses and discuss the UK and India’s commercial, trade and people links.
In the evening Johnson will travel to Delhi and hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. The meeting will be focused on India and UK’s strategic defence, diplomatic and economic partnership, aimed at bolstering close partnership and stepping up security co-operation in the Indo-Pacific.
The two leaders are also expected to discuss brewing tension in eastern Europe amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While the UK has been opposing Russia and imposed strict sanctions, India continues to hold its neutral stand.
Notably, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month and agreed to build a strong relationship between the two countries on trade, security and business in the coming days.
Last year, the Prime Minister and Prime Minister Modi agreed on a UK-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, announcing more than £530m in investment into the UK and committing to a deeper bilateral relationship across trade, health, climate, and defence and security.
