Fact Check: Did 57 BSF soldiers lose their lives in Ladakh? Here’s the truth

Following the violent confrontation between the Indian Army and the Chinese troops at Galwan Valley, where at least 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, numerous pictures and videos started doing rounds on social media.

One such picture in circulation shows security personnel lying over each other. The picture is being shared with the claim that 57 BSF soldiers killed in Ladakh on the night of confrontation.

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found that the picture is old.

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found a retweet by the official Twitter account of BSF, dated February 10, 2019, featuring the image.

As per the original tweet, the picture was taken at the BSF Academy Tekanpur, Madhya Pradesh when the jawans were resting after a training session.

“This is how #Leisure time of 2-3 hrs is passed in outdoor #exercises of @BSF_India #commando academy in #Tekanpur. Highly motivated gaurdian of #FirstLineofDefence and #internal #security, ” the original tweet read.

Moreover, in an official statement, the Indian Army confirmed that 20 personnel lost their lives during the confrontation.

The above information proves that the post in question is false.
