Over 5.9 million people have been infected with the COVID-19 worldwide with the death toll at 364,867, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

Here are the top 10 global developments this morning:

1. US President Donald Trump has announced that he is terminating the country’s relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO).

2. The US recorded 1,225 coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Johns Hopkins University tally.

3. The death toll in Brazil has passed that of Spain as the country becomes the fifth-worst affected.

4. The United Kingdom is lifting lockdown restrictions in June but a senior health adviser to the government has warned that is happening too early. There are still 8,000 infections a day in the UK.

5. Russia has suffered its biggest daily increase in deaths – 232 in 24 hours – bringing the nationwide total to 4,374.

6. Iran has identified more coronavirus cases in a day than in any time since early April; 2,819 more people tested positive on Friday.

7. Australia, which is also easing restrictions in many states on 1 June, has had fewer than 50 new cases a day for the past several weeks.

8. Mexico recorded 3,227 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday and 371 more deaths, bringing the total numbers to 84,627 cases and 9,415 fatalities, Reuters reported.

9. South Korea has postponed the planned reopening of more than 800 schools as it battles a renewed outbreak of the coronavirus, with cases now at their highest level for almost two months.

10. The director of the Venice film festival, Alberto Barbera, has provided an update on the festival, which will be held despite Italy being one of the countries worst hit by the coronavirus, with more than 33,000 deaths.
