America failed to prepare for COVID-19: Joe Biden

Date:

Former Vice-President and Presidential Candidate from the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, attacked US President Donald Trump and said that the US failed in its COVID-19 containment strategy and that the President has failed the economy. He further added that Trump has only ensured that wealthy individuals have prospered during this crisis.

He specifically pointed out that the US has lost over 20 million jobs just in the month of April, which is the highest since the Great Depression of 1929. He termed it as an economic disaster that hasn’t been planned for by the present administration.

“Donald Trump utterly failed to prepare for this pandemic and delayed in taking the necessary steps to safeguard our nation against the near worst economic scenario we are now living in”, he said.

He added that many small businesses that had to shut down due to the lockdown measures may not reopen. This is due to various economic institutions that have been destroyed in the last three years by Trump.

He particularly expressed his concern over the issue of the middle class being forgotten in the entire crisis and warned that it will take a long period of time for the US to recover from this crisis.

He added: “Because Trump has gotten the virus response wrong, the jobs and unemployment numbers are just the beginning. His mistakes will also mean it takes more time to recover from this.”.

President Trump is yet to respond to this.
