COVID-19: India begins rescue of its nationals stranded abroad; Missions begin facilitation

The Indian Navy has already despatched three ships to rescue Indian nationals living abroad in Maldives and UAE.

The government on Monday announced that a phased rescue plan has been put in motion to rescue certain categories of Indian nationals living abroad.

This will commence from May 7. A strict health protocol has been put in place.

Passengers will have to pay for this service.

Passengers boarding aircrafts/ ships will have to test negative before commencing their journey to India. They will be screened upon arrival in India and will be quarantined for a period of 14 days before taking a call on their status.

Indian Embassies/ High Commissions abroad have started the process of facilitating this process.

Here are some of the details:

Singapore

All details regarding health certificates, flight schedules and other information is available at the hcisingapore.gov.in

United Kingdom

The Indian High Commission has informed Indians living in UK that Air India will be operating flights to rescue them.

Indian nationals can register at hcilondon.gov.in

United Arab Emirates

The Consulate General in India has informed that apart from the ships, two special flights will be operated from Abu Dhabi to Kochi and Dubai to Kozhikode.

Saudi Arabia

Indian nationals can register on the Embassy’s website and fill a separate Google document form.

Australia

Indian nationals can register up to May 10, 2020. The link is given below:

Registration in these above-mentioned link does not guarantee the option of traveling back to India. The embassy officials will scrutinize every application and decide on its merits.
