COVID-19: US boosts India’s fight; provides $3 million more in assistance

The US Embassy on Thursday stated that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has lent an additional amount of USD 3 million to India to boost the nation’s fight against COVID-19.

This additional amount announced on April 16 will be provided to Partnerships for Affordable Healthcare Access and Longevity (PAHAL), an innovative financing platform for IPE Global.

Through this project, the USAID will support the National Health Authority in streamlining the finances for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana, which has benefited more than 500 million people. The insurance is helping many people battle COVID-19.

The US has till date provided USD 5.9 million to fight the spread of the virus and beef up its public health infrastructure.

“This additional funding to support India in its continuing efforts to combat COVID-19 is yet another example of the strong and enduring partnership between the US and India,” US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster said.

India has reported a total number of 33,050 cases and 1,074 deaths so far due to coronavirus.
