FAKE Alert: No, 5G is not spreading the Coronavirus

Date:

Several claims have been circulating online claiming that the 5th Generation or 5G technology used on cellular phones for the Internet is responsible for spreading the Coronavirus.

In fact, the hashtag #Idonotconsent to 5G has multiple posts under it in the month of April.

The claims garnered further attention when tennis player Novak Djokovic’s wife Jelena shared a post on her Instagram pointing to a correlation between 5G and the spread of Coronavirus. The post was later taken down.

FACT CHECK

We fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.

We came across the official Press Information Bureau Twitter page, which had clearly stated on April 26, 2020, that any claims between the correlation of 5G and the spread of Coronavirus are false, as declared by the World Health Organization.

Hence, the claims are false and 5G does not spread the Coronavirus.
