Fact Check: Delhi’s LG has not banned Azaan; here’s the truth

Date:

A video is being shared on social media in which two cops can be seen telling a few members of a Muslim community that the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has ordered that no Azaan will be carried out.

“दिल्ली किराड़ी में रमज़ान में सभी मस्जिदो में आजान नही देने का फरमान पुलिस ने कहा LG साहब का ऑर्डर है” the post caption read.

(Translation:Delhi LG has ordered that Azaan will not be carried out in any Majsid in Delhi.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found the claim to be false.

We ran a search using relevant keywords and found a tweet by Delhi Police dated April 24.  In the tweet, they have clarified that Azaan can be carried out in accordance with NGT guidelines.

On further investigation, we also found a tweet by Manish Sisodia, Delhi Deputy CM, who clarified that there is no restriction on ‘Azaan’. However, congregations at mosques or any other religious places are not permitted.

The above information proves that the Delhi LG has not banned ‘Azaan’ and hence the information is false.
