This is for the first time the state has witnessed over 500 cases in a single day, even as the state government appears to be clueless in its response.

An inter-ministerial team from the Centre visited the state to assess the situation and has made certain recommendations to the state and Union governments.

It has called for shifting of all slum dwellers in Dharavi to quarantine centres and stricter implementation of the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Deputy CM Ajit Pawar has written a letter to the Railways Ministry calling for a special train to be arranged to ferry the migrants back home after the lockdown is lifted on May 3. In the letter, he warns of law and order problems, similar to the one witnessed in Bandra, once the lockdown is lifted.
