Muslims gathered for prayer hurl stones at police personnel amid lockdown? Here’s the truth

Date:

A video is being shared on social media, with a claim, that Muslims gathered on roads to pray (despite the lockdown) hurled stones at police, who wanted to disperse them.

“Look at what Muslims do after the prayers, as they gathered in hundreds, Police had to run away as they started stone pelting … in defiance : Should Police use more force if they don’t obey local curfew orders? Police in India does not enforce with guns or other means besides lathi ( cane) charge ! Live and let live rule” – the caption read.

The video is also being shared with a different claim that the idea of curfew and lockdown backfired after it was imposed without any preparations.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above posts and found the claim to be false.

On taking out the keyframes of the video and running them through Reverse Image Search, along with a combination of relevant keywords like ‘police, stone-pelting’, we found the same video on YouTube.

TV9 Gujarati uploaded the same video on Dec 19, 2019. “Anti-CAA protest in Shah-e-Alam area, Protesters pelted stones on Police van | Ahmedabad – Tv9” the caption read.

We also found a news bulletin by Republic TV on the same dated Dec 2019.

The above information proves that the video is old and is not related to any curfew/lockdown.
