Fact Check: This picture of PM Modi in Church has no relation to Coronavirus outbreak

A picture of Prime Minister Modi is being shared on social media with a caption implying that he visited Church and prayed for the safety of Indians amidst Coronavirus outbreak.

“OUR INDIAN PRIME MINISTER MODI SIR PRAYING TO CHURCH TODAY. IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST SAVE INDIA CORONAVIRUS.” the caption read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that it in an old picture.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original picture was taken in 2019 when PM Modi visited Sri Lanka.

“In Sri Lanka, PM Modi Makes Unscheduled Visit To Church Hit By Easter Bombing” the headline read.

PM Modi’s visit was in solidarity with the victims of the terror attack that took place in Sri Lanka in April 2019.

Nine suicide bombers carried out a series of devastating blasts at St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa on Easter Sunday.

The above information proves that the viral picture is old and has no relation to the Coronavirus outbreak.
