COVID-19: China to expel American Journalists in a tit for tat move

Date:

Beijing on Wednesday announced that it will be expelling 13 American journalists, in a move seen as a tit for tat measure.
These journalists belong to the leading newspapers in the US such as the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
The number of Journalists to be expelled could actually go up depending on the assessment criteria set by the authorities in Beijing.
This move comes as a retaliatory measure after the Trump Administration expelled close to 60 Journalists belonging to various China state media organisations based out of the US.
The two nations have indulged in a war of words in recent times over the origins of the deadly coronavirus.
The Foreign Correspondents Club of China described the move as unfortunate and rued at the fact that Journalists were being used as pawns in the diplomatic games of the big powers.
The US and China have in recent times indulged in bouts of trade wars, currency wars and sanctions levied by the US against China for its blatant violations of human rights in Hong Kong and Xinjiang Autonomous Region.
