COVID-19: Central govt employees exempted from biometric attendance till March 31

The Central government has exempted its employees from using biometric attendance till March 31 amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in India.

This has been done as a precautionary measure in light of the ongoing spread of the novel coronavirus infection.

In a notification, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievance and Pensions said, “It is learnt that the most common method of transmission of virus seems to be through infected surfaces. Therefore, it is desirable to avoid touching surfaces, which might be infected due to human touch.”

An individual’s biometrics is unique to an individual and this can be used to ascertain the identities of them. This involves a person’s fingerprints, Iris scan etc.

For the purpose of attendance, a person is expected to place his finger on the machine which will then record the attendance and the time of the entry of the person to the institution.

As per the latest reports, 31 cases have tested positive for the coronavirus infection in India. The virulent outbreak has already claimed over 3,200 lives across the globe.
