Moments after the landslide victory of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi Assembly elections, party leaders and cadre celebrated it with cake-cutting, road-shows, paying obeisance, singing and dancing.
But the netizens, including supporters and journalists – had a different way to celebrate the victory – savouring biryani. They put up pictures of them having biryani.
Those following the run-up to the polls could probably guess the innuendo, but the uninitiated, this was in response to comments of some senior BJP leaders that AAP was serving biryani to anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters at Shaheen Bagh in South Delhi.
“The Kejriwal government provides biryani to the people sitting at protest at Shaheen Bagh and other places,” UP Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath had said during a poll rally.
BJP’s IT Cell head Amit Malviya had accused Shaheen Bagh protesters with a similar charge, saying the protest is a sponsored one and people are being lured by biryani and other refreshments.

A peaceful sit-in, led mostly by women and children, is underway for over 60 days demanding the withdrawal of the contentious Citizenship Act and abandonment of a nation-wide NRC (National Register of Citizens).
Social media platforms have been flooded with posts of citizens announcing celebrations with biryani after the AAP win. Not just that, Biryani sales legit shot up in the national capital after the results were announced.
