Inspired by Bollywood movie, ‘dhaba’ owner murders, buries body

Date:

In a Bollywood inspired murder mystery, the body of a 32-year-old man has been found after months of his killing. Three persons have been arrested in Maharashtra’s Nagpur city for allegedly killing him in December 2019 and burying the body to hide the crime.

In what can be an inspiration from 2015’s Ajay Devgn-starrer ‘Drishyam’, the remains of an electrician, who worked with the Haldiram company, and his motorcycle, have been found buried in the backyard of a ‘dhaba’ (roadside food stall) in Kapsi area in Nagpur.

The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Dilip Giramkar, and the main accused, Amarsingh alias Lallu Jogendrasingh Thakur, owned the food outlet, where the body was found. As per Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nilesh Bharne, he was allegedly having an affair with Giramkar’s wife.

On December 28, Giramkar, arrived at the ‘dhaba’ to ask the accused to discontinue the affair.
This led to a fight between the two following which Thakur allegedly smashed Giramkar’s head with a hammer. The victim collapsed and died on the spot.

Thakur, with the help of a cook and a waiter, put the body in a steel drum and decided to bury it. He got a 10-feet deep pit in the backyard for the same purpose.

He filled the pit with about 50 kg of salt and kept the body over it and covered it with soil. The motorcycle was also buried over the body, Bharne said.

The police also confirmed that the accused threw the victim’s mobile phone in a truck which travelled to Rajasthan. The family lodged a missing person’s complaint with the police, when the victim did not return home.

During probe, the Crime Branch officials got a tip-off for the dhaba. They visited the place in plainclothes and procured evidence. Post that the police questioned Thakur, his cook and another associate. Bharne said during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.

The police then dug up the pit at the food stall and recovered the victim’s remains and his motorcycle on Sunday. Search was on for one more accused who worked as a waiter at the eatery, he said.
