Jammu and Kashmir: Body of missing soldier recovered; 4 out of 5 soldiers dead in snow slide

The body of the soldier that was missing earlier has been recovered. As per Indian Army sources as quoted by ANI, 4 out of the 5 soldiers, who were caught in the snow slide in Macchil sector have lost their lives.

“In last 48 hours, five Army soldiers and one Border Security Force (BSF) constable have succumbed, due to heavy snowfall, avalanche and snow slides in Kashmir” ANI quoted defence sources.

The avalanches hit Kupwara, Baramulla and Genderbal area.

According to India Metrological Department (IMD), the minimum and maximum temperatures in Kupwara would be -4 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius for the next two days.

The region is also expected to receive light rains tomorrow.
