Japanese passport the most powerful in 2020; this is where India stands

Date:

The latest passport power rankings have come out, according to the 2020 Henley Passport Index released on Tuesday (Jan 7). Japan has topped the list for the third consecutive year.

This report is released annually by Henley and Partners based on the data compiled by the International Air Transport Association.

Which factors determine the power of a passport?

The Henley Passport Index measures which passports are the most powerful out there based on the countries its holders can enter without prior visa approval.

India’s ranking fell by two places to 84 compared to 82 it had secured in the 2019. Indian passport holders can travel to 58 nations without any visa hindrance. Mauritania and Tajikistan share the spot with India. It is expected that with an emerging economy, the Indian passport will only grow more stronger.
