The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) have come out with a draft Comprehensive Mobility Planning policy and have invited comments from members of the general public.
People can drop in their suggestions on the website of BMRCL.
The policy seeks to address the growing notorious traffic congestion in the city and encourage the city dwellers to use public transport.
Efficient public transport has been recognized as a key area which can transform the city considered to be the knowledge capital of India.

Some of the plans include:
1. By 2031, the policy hopes to achieve,
A metro network of 317 Km,
Suburban rail network of 177 Km,
107 Km Bus Rapid Transport System and metrolite on NICE road and areas surrounding the peripheral ring road,
Priority bus lane corridors of 202 Km and
15,000 BMTC buses.
2. The policy proposes light urban rail transit system and metrolite on Magadi Road; Whitefield-Domlur line and Katamanallur Gate-Sarjapura road-Hebbal.
3. Provision of railway services to those living on the outskirts of the city in areas such as Bidadi, Ramanagaram, Tumkuru, Hosur, Bangarpet, Doddaballapur and Devenahalli.
4. About 50 high density traffic congestion areas such as the Hebbal junction, Central Silk Board junction and common section of the Outer Ring Road and Older Madras Road between KR Puram and Tin Factory have been recognized as high traffic density zones. Decongestion plans are being readied which include construction of foot over bridges in these areas amongst others.
5. Elevated corridors are to be reviewed as many of them clash with the metro rail project plans.
The city hopes to integrate its transport networks and ensure a smooth and seamless public transport which is also clean and sustainable.
In the past few years, the city has become a living hell with endless traffic jams, inefficient and unsafe public transport.
The state is a major recipient of foreign investment and Bengaluru is a growing city which needs a sustainable public transport system.
