At 2+2 Dialogue, India & Japan tell Pak to take ‘resolute action’ against terror networks

New Delhi: At the first-ever Foreign and Defence Ministerial Dialogue (2+2), India and Japan on Saturday called upon Pakistan to take resolute action against terror networks and fully comply with international commitments.

The Indian delegation was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar while the Japanese side was headed by Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Minister of Defence Taro Kono.

Issuing a joint statement after the meeting, Indian and Japan said, “All countries need to take resolute action in rooting out terrorist safe havens and infrastructure. And disrupting terrorist networks and eliminating financing channels and halting the cross-border movement of terrorists.”

Highlights of the meet
  • Both the countries condemned in strongest terms against the growing threat of terrorism and acknowledged that it constituted a major threat to peace and security in the region.

 

  • The Ministers underlined the need for all countries to ensure that all territory under their control is not used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries in any manner.

 

  • They noted the threat posed to regional security by terrorist networks operating out of Pakistan and called upon it to take resolute action against them and fully comply with international commitments including to FATF.

 

  • The Ministers emphasised the need for stronger international partnership in countering terrorism and violent extremism, including through increased sharing of information and intelligence.

 

  • The leaders discussed strengthening of the India – Japan bilateral strategic and defence cooperation enhancing peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region, MEA said.
