Maha BJP Prez Chandrakant Patil meets Governor; discusses legal options & political situation

Date:

The Maharashtra political drama enters another day of confusion, with BJP and Shiv Sena still adamant about their individual stands. The BJP rescheduled their meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari on Thursday, from morning to afternoon and have now finished their meeting at the Raj Bhawan. They were earlier waiting for ally Shiv Sena’s response.

BJP President, Chandrakant Patil, said, “people of Maharashtra have given mandate to ‘Mahayuti’ (alliance). There is delay in government formation. Today, we met the Governor to discuss the legal options and political situation in the state.”

The BJP had earlier announced that it will meet the Governor on Thursday to inform him of the political situation. BJP state chief Chandrakant Patil and finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar were to represent BJP during the meeting.

Shiv Sena party chief Uddhav Thackeray met his MLAs earlier in the day, where they were expected to discuss the present political situation.

Post that, a Shiv Sena leader, Gulabrao Patil, has said that all Shiv Sena MLAs will move to a hotel for the next two days. They are reported to move to Hotel Rangsharda in Mumbai.

Allies BJP and Sena have been involved in a power-sharing tussle since the results of the Assembly elections were announced on October 24. While BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 105 seats, Sena has 56 seats in the 288-member Assembly. According to the Shiv Sena, a 50:50 formula was agreed upon and a rotating Chief Ministerial position was also discussed before the elections.

The Shiv Sena on Thursday launched yet another attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of trying to poach recently elected lawmakers.

However, later Sena leader Sanjay Raut, clarified that he did not mean Sena MLAs are being poached. “No one can dare to get in touch with our legislators. People from other parties have given us information that they are attempts to get in touch with them, luring them,” he told reporters.
