Enough is enough, hearing to end at 5 pm: CJI Ranjan Gogoi on Ayodhya case

Date:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to take any intervention application in the Ayodhya Ram Temple-Babri Masjid land case, and said daily hearings in the matter will end at 5 pm today.

“This matter is going to be over by 5 pm today. Enough is enough,” CJI Ranjan Gogoi said while dismissing intervention application of one of the parties. Today is the 40th day of hearing in the case.

The court is expected to announce a verdict in the 134-year-old title suit before the Chief Justice leaves office on November 17. On Monday, the Supreme Court resumed daily hearings after a week-long Dussehra break.

The five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India began day-to-day proceedings on August 6 after mediation proceedings failed to find an amicable solution to the dispute.

Fourteen appeals have been filed in the top court against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits, that the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya be partitioned equally among the three parties – the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.
