FACT CHECKED: This man in the viral video playing dandia is not former PM Morarji Desai

A video is doing rounds on social media with a claim that the video is of former prime minister Morarji Desai playing dandia in 1962.

“Ex. Prime Minister of India played Garba at Bhadeli Valsad in year 1962 MR. Morarji Desai🙏🏻” the caption read. 

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the video, we found the claim to be fake.

When we took the screengrab from the video and ran it through Reverse Image Search, we an article by Desh Gujarat dated October 22, 2018, calling out the fake video.

According to the article, Madhukeshwar Desai, Morarji Desai’s grand-son confirmed that the man in the video is not the former PM.

The article also identifies the man as Late Kunvarji Narshi Lodaya. It states that the video is a personal marriage ceremony in Mumbai (1994) where Kunvarji Narshi and his brother Mulji Narshi Shah can be seen playing a type of Dandiya known as ‘Dhamal’.

The above information proves that the man in the video is not Morarji Desai and hence the claim is fake.
