The Centre on Wednesday approved a 5% hike in Dearness Allowance to central government employees, and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners with effect from July 2019 to compensate for price rise.
The decision comes after the Union Cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi held early in the day.
Addressing a press conference, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said: “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi several decisions have been taken and good news for government employees is that Dearness Allowance has been hiked by 5%.”
“This is a Diwali gift to employees,” he added.
