An action-packed bonanza this week ranging from period to contemporary!

Date:

Bollywood Buffs can look forward to a midweek bonanza on October 2nd , Wednesday with two big-budget releases – War and Sye Raa.

War

Is a much-hyped and much-awaited action thriller which brings together two of the most accomplished actors of our industry in terms of dance and action – Hrithik and Tiger. Apart from the two, it stars Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana, Dipannita Sharma. It is backed by Yash Raj Films and directed by Siddhartha Anand.

Check out the trailer:

The cast, crew and trailers have ensured very good anticipation amongst the audience. Siddhartha Anand, who has given Hum Tum, Salaam Namaste, and more recently Bang Bang is someone whose films have always had a swanky and voguish feel and look.

War seems a spy/ agent drama with a very familiar plot of an agent going rogue. But the visuals and action seem absolutely smashing and classy. If the film delivers what the trailers promise, the fact that the story doesn’t have a novelty value would be more than compensated by the international levels visuals and action.

Though I found the music by Vishal- Shekhar mediocre, the songs seem to be creating just the right kind of buzz. And the team has left no stone unturned in creating pre-release hype whether its Vaani Kapoor’s dance moves or Hrithik- Tiger’s chemistry and camaraderie.

Hrithik and Tiger have a very steady and loyal fan following. Vaani was quite appreciated in her new chic and super fit avatar in Befikre last. The high octane action thriller is a genre that stands a good chance of doing well. The trailers look very promising. The movie is sure to have grand opening figures. Considering that they have an additional advantage of a national holiday midweek plus the usual weekend, it is expected to set the cash registers ringing in the box office.

Sye Raa

Is a biographical epic action film based on the life of freedom fighter Uyyalwada Narsimha Reddy who revolted against the British 10 yrs prior to our first war for Independence in 1857.

The film is produced by Ramcharan (whom we last saw in Zanjeer remake a few years back). It stars his father and megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead role. The rest of the cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara, Tamanna amongst other actors.

Check out the trailer:

The film’s teaser seems to have an uncanny resemblance to Thugs of Hindustan in terms of drama, Manikarnika in terms of battle sequences and Bahubali in terms of scale.

With lot many movies in a race to encash our new found craze for epic period action dramas, I would say that the audience is becoming more and more choosy. Not only do they expect a wow factor but also novelty value and a good script to back it up.

The sheer opulence of scale and star power would just not suffice.

Sye Raa is a big-budget film that’s releasing simultaneously in five languages. It’s being strongly promoted by megastars like Amitabh and Amir. But that still has to be seen if it strikes the right chord with the audience up North.

We recently saw a fiasco in Prabhas starrer Saaho which failed to click with the audience for obvious lack of script and performance inspite of all its so-called opulence scale and impressive trailers.

It would be interesting to see what Syeraa delivers and how it plays alongside War which is bound to be the audience ‘s first watch of the week.

Whatever be the final verdict, it’s going to be exciting for movie buffs who get to watch contemporary and period action dramas in the same week.
