Fact Check: Here’s the truth about Rs 5, Rs 350 note and Rs 100, Rs 1000 coin

A picture of a new Rs 5 note and Rs 350 of the Indian currency along with coins of Rs 100 and Rs 1000 coins  is being shared on social media.

FACT CHECK 

NewsMobile fact checked the above posts and this what we found:

1. Rs  5 note

The first thing we noticed in the picture that the five rupee note reads, ‘pachas rupiya (fifty rupees)‘ while it read Rs 5 in numerical. 

2. Rs 350 note 

When we checked the website of the RBI, we found that the currency notes of Rs 350 are not in circulation and was never released.
Following are the notes that are currently in circulation;

3. Rs 100 coin

On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, a commemorative Rs 100 coin was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2018.

4. Rs 1000 Coin

Commemorative coins of Rs 1000 were released in 2010 to celebrate the thousand years of Brihadeeswara temple. 


This proves that these are infact not in circulation and are not legal tender.
