Tokyo ranks no. 1 as world’s safest city; Mumbai ranked 45th, ahead of Delhi

Tokyo has been ranked as the world safest city and that too for the third time. While Singapore and Osaka maintained their respective footholds in second and third place in the Safe Cities Index (SCI) 2019.

Apart from the top three countries, Washington, DC, has entered in top 10 cities for the first time, while Hong Kong dropped to 20th place from 9th in the 2017 edition of the biennial report.

The Economist Intelligence Unit in its report ranked 60 countries worldwide across five continents and measures the multi-faceted nature of urban safety, with indicators categorised as digital, infrastructure, health and personal security.

Besides this, only two cities of India – Mumbai and New Delhi – have the entered in the club. Mumbai has been ranked as the 45th safest city ahead of the New Delhi which stood at 52nd position.
