England win their first World Cup after defeating New Zealand in thrilling final

The game of cricket got its new champion as England lifted its maiden World Cup after defeating New Zealand in the final of ICC World Cup 2019 at the iconic Lords.

Chasing the target of 242 runs set by New Zealand, ended in a tie as hosts managed to score 241-runs in 50-overs.

In the Super Over, hosts set a target of 16-runs for Blackcaps. The thrilling Super Over also ended up in tie and England was declared winners because they had scored the most number of Boundaries.

As Williamson took his first run he became the highest scoring captain of all time in the World Cup history. He completed this feat in 10 innings. The 28-year-old played a knock of 30 runs before he was departed by England pacer Liam Plunkett.

Williamson finished at the fourth position of the highest run-getter chart and amassed 578 runs in the tournament.

He held the innings for the Kiwis in the semi-final against India. He has scored two centuries in the tournament and has also provided his off-spin services to the team when in need. Under his leadership, the Kiwis won five matches from nine fixtures in the group stage.
