Women in Switzerland prepare for a protest today, to embark for equality 28 years after the 1991 protests for the same. Swiss Women have always brought forth a compelling urge to attain equality for women.
Several women joined together in solidarity after the World War I in 1918 for the right to vote, but only received legal sanctions in 1971.

During the 1991 strike, there were no women representatives in the government and no provisions for maternity leave. Until then, there have been several changes made in respect to the rights and privileges for women in Switzerland, with 8 female members in the government.
Yet, they still on average earn 20% less than men and are ill-represented in management jobs. Child care is still very expensive and workplaces make no special provisions for working mothers.
According to reports by the BBC, the International Labour Organisation surveyed and placed Switzerland at the bottom of the list in pay rates between men and women in senior roles.
Several stalwarts of the 1991 protests have promised their participation in today’s protest, including Journalist Beatrice Born and Paola Ferro, one of the organizers of the protest.
‘#Frauenstreik’, has been trending ever since the Swiss government promised to check over equal pay. But, made the change applicable to companies with more than 100 employees which female trade union leaders regarded as null and void.
