Kolkata: Violence at Amit Shah’s roadshow; stones thrown, vehicles burnt

Date:

Clashes broke out between Trinamool Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers during Amit Shah’s roadshow in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The violence started after the BJP supporters saw some students of north Kolkata’s Vidyasagar College, standing with ‘Go Back Amit Shah’ posters. Stones were pelted at Amit Shah’s convoy from a college hostel on Bidhan Sarani.

Moreover, the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was vandalised at Vidyasagar College in the clashes.

Commenting after the clashes broke out in Kolkata, the BJP chief said, “Today the way BJP’s road show got a response in Kolkata with almost every citizen attending it, TMC’s goons were frustrated & so attacked it. I would like to congratulate BJP workers as even after such chaos the roadshow continued and concluded at the planned place and time.”

While the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “I’ve learnt some BJP hooligans have vandalised Vidyasagar college. We will not let go this easily. We will give befitting reply.”

“I am ashamed of this. They (BJP) have brought outsiders to riot in Kolkata. I ask our education minister to rush to the spot and check the situation of Delhi gunda (hooligan) netas,” the Bengal CM added.
