Did Amit Shah urge voters to not vote for Meenakshi Lekhi? Here’s the fact check

Date:

A video of BJP President Amit Shah is making rounds on social media which was tweeted by senior Congress leader Ajay Maken in which he can be heard saying ‘don’t vote for both the BJP candidates.’

In the caption, Maken wrote, “Its very strange-BJP President Sh Amit Shah himself says that do not vote for Meenakshi Lekhi! Then why should anyone vote for Lekhi ji?”

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above video, we found it to be misleading as it is clipped from Amit Shah’s 30-min long election speech from Delhi’s Vasant Kunj.

When we scanned through Amit Shah’s and BJP’s social media handles, we found the full video of the rally from which the above clip of Amit Shah was extracted.

In the full video, Amit Shah had said: “Narendra Modi government did several things. For the poor, it did a lot of things. It gave them a house, electricity, toilets, gas connection, pure drinking water. Did a lot of things for Delhi. But our two parliamentary candidates, sister Lekhi and Ramesh Bidhuri, for this one thing don’t give them votes. I’m saying this now. Being the BJP president, I’m saying don’t vote for my two candidates for this one thing. For Delhi, Modi ji spent one lakh crore but don’t vote even for that. But definitely vote for them (because) Modi ji has made the country secure. That’s why vote for them.”

The part of the video can be seen from 1:20:07.

Hence, this proves that the video clip shared by Ajay Maken is misleading.
