Netflix is coming up with a ‘random episode’ feature for those who can’t decide what to watch

Date:

Netflix on Friday confirmed it is testing a button to play random episodes of select TV shows.

“We are testing the ability for members to play a random episode from different TV series on the Android mobile app,” a Netflix spokesperson told Variety. “

Some of the shows the button is being tested on include “The Office,” “Our Planet,” “Arrested Development,” and “New Girl,” according to Android Police

Users that are part of the test get to see a button to play a random episode within the Netflix video player and the app is also offering users the ability to ‘play a popular episode’ right from the main menu.

Obviously, there are plenty of serialized shows where being dropped into any random episode really wouldn’t make much sense or be enjoyable.

But if the user just wants to throw on Friends, NCIS, Parks and Recreation, or Grey’s Anatomy in the background, this might actually prove rather convenient.

It is currently seen on the Netflix Android app, specifically, v7.6.0 build 19 34157. It is unclear if the feature will be rolled out to a wider audience.
