2019 Lok Sabha polls: Here’s all you need to know about first phase polls

As Tuesday, April 9, is the last day of campaigning, India is all set to elect its 17th Lok Sabha. In the first phase of polling which will be held on April 11, 20 states and Union Territories will go for voting comprising 91 parliamentary constituencies.

The states that are going to the poll in the phase I of Lok Sabha election are: Andhra Pradesh (25 parliamentary constituencies), Arunachal Pradesh (2), Assam (5), Bihar (4), Chhattisgarh (1), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Maharashtra (7), Manipur (1), Meghalaya (2), Mizoram (1), Nagaland (1), Odisha (4), Sikkim (1), Telangana (17), Tripura (1), Uttar Pradesh (8), Uttarakhand (5), West Bengal (2), Andaman (1) and Lakshadweep (1).

Besides that, assembly elections in four states – Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Odisha will also be held on April 11.

Here is the list of parliamentary constituencies going to poll in phase I.

Key cities in first phase – Nagpur, Saharanpur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gaya

In the electorally crucial Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, there will be a clash of heavyweights – Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh and sitting BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan. The parliamentary seat has a total of 16 lakh voters.

Other key leaders contesting in first phase –  Nitin Gadkari (Nagpur), V K Singh(Ghaziabad), Jitan Ram Manjhi (Gaya), Harish Rawat (Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar), and Ramesh Pokhriyal (Haridwar).
