Mulayam Singh Yadav files nomination from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri

Date:

Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday filed his nomination papers from Uttar Pradesh’s Manipur for the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The 79-year-old leader was accompanied by his son Akhilesh Yadav during filing the nomination. When asked who is the PM candidate of the SP-BSP alliance, he said, “It will be decided after the polls.”

The Samajwadi Party patriarch won Mainpuri with huge margins in 1996, 2004, 2009, and 2014. The SP and the BSP had forged an alliance earlier this year in the electorally crucial state of Uttar Pradesh to take on the BJP in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

So far, Mulayam Singh Yadav has been the only candidate who has filed nomination for the seat. The BJP is yet to decide on a candidate against Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Mainpuri is going to polls in the third phase of the seven-phase election on April 23. The result will be announced on May 23.
