Fact Checked: Voters will not have to pay Rs 350 if they do not cast their vote

A picture of a newspaper clipping is making rounds on social media according to which Rs 350 will be deducted from the bank account of those voters who will not cast their vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The headline of the article read: “वोट देने नहीं गए तो बैंक अकाउंट से कटेंगे ₹ 350”

(Translation: If you do not vote, ₹ 350 will be deducted from the bank account)

The clipping of the news was shared on Facebook as well.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile came across the viral post we fact-checked it and found that the report was not true.

When we dug out the link to the original article, we came across the report of Hindi national daily, Nav Bharat Times. The article dated March 21st, 2019 actually existed but it was a satirical piece.

 

At the beginning of the report, there is a disclaimer which clarified that it is not a real news report.

It read: डिसक्लेमरः इस खबर में कोई सच्चाई नहीं है। यह मजाक है और किसी को आहत करना इसका मकसद नहीं है।

Hence, it is clear that the above news report is not real.
