Priyanka Gandhi commences her 3 day Ganga yatra from Prayagraj to Varanasi

Date:

Ahead of the elections, Priyanka Gandhi has started her 3-day Ganga Yatra in UP. She kickstarted the trip by performing puja at the Bade Hanuman Temple in Prayagraj. Starting from here, the boat ride will finally end in PM Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi at the Assi Ghat.

She is expected to head to Sangam from here, where she will be performing another set of rituals. Priyanka Gandhi’s tour will roughly cover about 140 km in three days during her Ganga yatra.

Priyanka Gandhi and Congress has come up with this innovative way of strengthening the Congress position in UP. She will also be interacting with students from across UP in a chat on the boat called ‘Boat pe Charcha’.

She is expected to celebrate Holi with party workers in Varanasi and also visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple. This entire process is being seen by many as a sure shot way to energise the almost dead political scene of Congress in UP. The state politics could get a new lease of life. She aims at pacing up the political momentum for the Congress in a state that is often termed as BJP’s stronghold. She will travel by boat but will stop on way for political interactions.

“The holy Ganga is symbolic for truth and equality. The people of this state depend on the Ganges and I will depend on Ganga too to connect to you,” Priyanka had written in an open letter to the people.

She is expected to commence her journey on Tuesday from Vindhyachal and visit the Dargah of Maulana Ismail Chisti in Bhadohi’s Kantit area. She will interact with the local people in all these locations.

She will then continue her steamer ride from Mirzapur. She will interact with advocates at Kachahri Ghat in the district and then visit Bhatauli village. She will also meet people at the Chandrika Devi temple.

From here, she will move to Devri in Mirzapur and interact with local villagers. Her night halt is expected to be in Chunar.

On the third and last day, she is expected to meet women groups in Varanasi’s Sheetla Mandir. She will continue her steamer ride till Ramnagar to meet the fishermen community there.

A visit to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri’s house in Varanasi will be followed by the last halt at the Assi Ghat. There she will interact with the locals and offer prayers at Vishwanath temple.

She is also expected to take the steamer ride to the famed Dashashwamedh Ghat before heading to the Varanasi Congress office to interact with the party workers and celebrate Holi with them.
She leaves for Delhi on Wednesday evening from Varanasi airport.
