“We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”, Facebook tweeted.

It confirmed that the issue is not related to DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attack.

Distributed DoS attack. A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. Such an attack is often the result of multiple compromised systems (for example, a botnet) flooding the targeted system with traffic.

Facebook’s and its messaging application Messenger along with the Facebook-owned photosharing app Instagram were all down and did not show updated feeds or post facilities. WhatsApp’s media was also down as the users were unable to share and send through any media files but the messaging service worked fine.
