February 6 marks the International Day for Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.
Female Genital Mutilation is a barbaric practice, custom or tradition that is followed globally which violated the human rights of women and girls. The customary practice has been prevalent in Africa, the Middle East and also parts of Asia. It involves a non-medical procedure of cutting or removing a part of the female genitalia which is deemed as impure or unnecessary. It is internationally recognized as a barbaric and ancient practice which is not beneficially for the body, in turn, it ends up injuring and creating many complications for the girl’s body.
