An urban emission inventory was formed by the researchers for Greater Bengaluru in which the major sources such as transport, on-road dust, burning of open waste, generator sets powered by diesel, industries, and brick kilns.

The primary contributors for the increase in the pollution, according to the research were vehicles and construction activities from which huge amount of dust is generated causing the increase in the air pollution over the last few years.

The Central Pollution Control Board also carried out an inventory in 2010, according to which, it was estimated that the PM10 levels would increase by 100 per cent by 2017, however, a shocking increase of 300 per cent was found upon the completion of the study.

Based on a master plan made by the Bengaluru Development Authority, the usage of public transport and non-vehicular transport will reduce by 2031 and will fall from 62 per cent to 46 per cent. On the other hand, private vehicles could be seen in large numbers. The highest increase in pollution will be seen from on-road and construction dust by 80 per cent  , while transport will be on the second number increasing by 50 per cent.
