The Super Blood Moon is an occurrence in which the moon changes its colour to red or reddish brown. The dates for this year’s Super Blood Moon are January 20 and January 21. People will be able to see a total lunar eclipse on these dates.

Here are some facts about the Super Blood Wolf Moon you should know:

  • This will be the first and the only total Lunar Eclipse of 2019.
  • The duration of the eclipse will be five hours.
  • A super blood moon happens when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, and block the light from the sun from falling directly on the Moon.
  • It will start at 11.41 PM on January 20 which will be around 10.11 AM in India and will last for 62 minutes.
  • During this time of the year, people can hear the sounds of wolves howling which is why it is called the Wolf Moon.

  • The Wolf Moon or Full Moon is also called Old Moon, Ice Moon, Snow Moon, and Moon After Yule.
  • It will be completely visible from North and South America starting by the evening of January 20 and will end after January 21 midnight.
  • In Europe and Western Africa, people will be able to see the eclipse on January 21 morning.
  • A Lunar Eclipse is absolutely harmless and can be seen easily with the naked eye.
  • Usually, a Lunar Eclipse occurs after a Solar Eclipse. The first solar eclipse took place on January 5 and 6 this year followed by lunar eclipse to occur on January 20 and January 21.
  • The next Lunar Eclipse will take place straight away on May 26, 2021.
  • It will not be visible in India, but Indians can view it online through live streaming.
