Today marks the 94th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Born in 1924, in Gwalior, Vajpayee achieved heights that few did in independent India.
The day is also observed as the Good Governance Day. His political career aside, Vajpayee is remembered as a captivating orator and an empathetic poet.

Vajpayee was the first non-Congress leader to complete a 5-year term as India’s Prime Minister. He was also the first Indian to address the United Nations in Hindi.
In 1957, Vajpayee became a Lok Sabha MP, representing the Balrampur constituency. This was just the beginning of his extraordinary journey in the corridors of power and politics.
Achievements
Atal Bihari Vajpayee started the Golden Quadrilateral and Gram Sadak Yojana during the tenure of Prime Minister for which he will be remembered forever. With the Golden Quadrilateral plan, many states of the country have been engaged in a formula. They connect to Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai to the highway network. Apart from this, the villages were connected to the cities through pucca roads under the Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojna.
Education for all campaign
Atal Bihari Vajpayee made awareness about education. He launched Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in 2001. It was decided in this scheme that children of 6 to 14 years of age should be given free education. Whose praise was all rounded. After which the number of children in government schools increased.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on August 16, 2018 after a prolonged illness. He was cremated with full state honours.
