Ashok Gehlot to be the CM of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot to be Deputy

Ashok Gehlot will be the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Congress announced on Friday. Rajasthan PCC president Sachin Pilot will be made the deputy chief minister.

“Congress President Rahul Gandhi has decided to appoint Ashok Gehlot Ji as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Sachin Pilot will be the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan,” KC Venugopal, All India Congress Committee observer for Rajasthan said in the press briefing.

The new Deputy CM of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot said, “I would like to thank Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other legislators for taking this decision to make Ashok Gehlot Ji the Chief Minister of Rajasthan.”

The belief that Gehlot will be the CM of the state became strong after Rahul Gandhi posted a picture of himself along with Pilot and Gehlot with the statement – The united colours of Rajasthan.


The result of the Assembly elections for Rajasthan was announced on Dec 11. Of the 199 seats that went for elections, Congress won 99 constituencies and BJP 73 only.

Gehlot the 67-year-old leader is the third time chief minister of the state. He was chief minister in 1998-2003 and 2008-2013.

Gehlot belongs to the Mali community.

He has been the General Secretary of the party, the third-in-command after party president Rahul Gandhi and treasurer Ahmed Patel.

Along with the administrative part, Gehlot will have to consolidate the voter base further for the upcoming General elections in 2019.
