Imran Khan acknowledges LeT’s involvement in 26/11 attacks

Date:

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan reportedly said something must be done about the bomber of 26/11 Mumbai, meanwhile tacitly acknowledging that the attack was perpetrated by the Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba ( LeT ).

In an interview to Washington Post, he said that resolving the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks case is in Pakistan’s interest and his government wants to prosecute those involved in the ‘act of terror.’

Pakistan’s premier also said that he has asked for the status of the case which is being heard in an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan.

“We also want something done about the bombers of Mumbai. I have asked our government to find out the status of the case. Resolving that case is in our interest because it was an act of terrorism,” he said.

LeT operations commander Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and six other were under trial in Pakistan’s anti-terrorism court. But the trails stalled due to lack of evidence.

India, which has provided a number of dossiers of evidence, has been maintaining that the bilateral relations cannot improve until Pakistan punishes all those involved in the crime.

India has particularly been pushing for action against LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, who has been roaming freely in Pakistan despite being declared as an international terrorist.

In the terror attack that shook India, 166 people were killed and 300 were injured. 10 heavily-armed LeT terrorists sailed into Mumbai and attacked multiple places in the city, including the iconic Taj Hotel on November 26, 2008.

“We know who did it. I don’t think we have to get anymore statement from anybody. International community knows who did it. Acceptance is good but even without itwe knew who had done it,” Army Chief General Bipin Rawat said in response to Khan’s admission.
