Date:

A section of the stairs from the famous Eiffel Tower was auctioned and sold on Tuesday for 170,000 Euros.

Around 24 wrought iron steps between second and third floors of the tower were given at 169,000 Euros to a Middle Eastern collector after a bidding session in Paris.

The Eiffel Tower is a world-famous site of Paris that is visited by tourists all around the year. For many, it is a dream come true and for families, couples or back-packing groups, a trip to Paris is incomplete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower.

The original price estimated by the Artcurial where the auctioning took place was between 40,000 to 60,000 Euros. The 13 feet high stairs had been a part of a personal Canadian collection, before 1889 when the tower was built by the French engineer Gustave as the main focus of the Paris Universal Exhibition.

It is the third tallest structure of the country and was the highest building in the world for consecutive 41 years until 1930.

In the year 1983, the staircase was removed from the structure to install a lift in that area and the stairs were cut into 24 sections that range from two to nine metres high.

Many of them have already been purchased by museums or are used for historic installations in prominent sites across the globe including Statue of Liberty in New York. In 2016, 14 steps were purchased by an Asian buyer for 523,800 Euros by Artcurial.
